HTC till now, did not strive to enter the budgeted segment of smartphones. Though the company had launched HTC Desire 210 dual SIM last year under 10k range but it failed to stand the competition. HTC Desire 526G Plus 16GB  is fairly a budget phone from HTC as it has all the required specifications against to the price range.  Being an Octa-core with 1GB of RAM, let’s see whether HTC is a good value for money handset.

Design of HTC Desire 526G Plus

Though Desire 526G Plus has a ‘candy bar’ design similar to other smartphones, but it is actually not an ape of any mobile. It has its own distinct identity. The lower and upper parts of main display area has speaker grills. The handset is plastic made but the sheer black color and the wedged design, makes it appear to be a metal piece. The gadget weighs 154 grams which is slightly heavier compared to other phones but is still comfortable to hold. The rear side is again glossy and is therefore, prone to fingerprints. Being dual SIM, 526G Plus has two micro SIM slots along with the removable battery. On to the right edge, both volume control & power buttons are embedded.

OS & Processor –

Android-based Desire 526G Plus runs on 4.4.2 KitKat along with HTC’s Sense 5 UI. With a promise by HTC to upgrade the device to Android 5.0, we have our fingers crossed. Not to mention that, HTC’ Sense UI works smoothly with Android and is also soft on battery as it consumes quite less power. HTC has made its best attempt to load the gadget with premium specifications and that proves out from the BlinkFeed home screen which is smooth and functional and is found on all the premium phones of the company.

The smartphone is powered by a 1.66 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor accompanied with 1GB of RAM which shows that the device has got the best hardware and is no way lesser than any other phones in this price range.

Storage –

HTC desire 526G Plus comes in two variants – 16GB & 32GB. The 16GB variant offers space of 11.97GB along with SD card support which allows to extend up to 32GB further. The device gives option to install apps directly on your SD card, thus, keeping the required space free within the internal memory.

Display –

HTC Desire 526G Plus has a display of 4.7 inches, whereas the actual screen size is only 4.6 inches. With many other best performing phones competing with HTC has 5.0 inches or more than that display, it may become quite challenging for the gadget to compete on this feature. The screen resolution is 540*960 pixels and 234 ppi pixel density. The pixel density is in proportion to the smaller screen size and would be appealing to the viewers. The device reflects little discoloration when viewed at certain angle but otherwise, the device is vibrant enough even in outdoor lighting conditions. The colors are well saturated without straining your eyes while reading or watching videos. If one overlooks the screen size, HTC 562G Plus is a best bet at this price range.

HTC Desire 526G Plus has standard cameras which are offered in that price segment. It has 8MP rear autofocus camera with LED flash and 2MP front camera with focused snapper. The primary camera performs well in outdoor ambient lighting and gives fairly crisp images. Images captured indoors displays noise and lack details. It can record 1080p videos at 30fps but is prone to noise even in better lighting conditions. The front camera is excellent for selfies to be shared instantly on Facebook, WhatsApp or any other place where you want yourself to appear.

The primary camera of HTC Desire 526G Plus is a better shooter when compared to that of Asus Zenfone 5 and Moto E (second generation).

The device has 2000mAh powered removable battery which delivers up to 15 hours of 3G talk time and 622 hours of standby. Though the battery capacity  is slightly lesser than that of Moto E (Second Gen), but HTC always proved to offer quality.

Price of HTC Desire 526G Plus-

At the time of launch, HTC Desire 526G Plus was priced above Rs.10,000 but over a period the price has reduced and it is now competing under 10k segment. The price of HTC Desire 526G Plus in India is Rs.7650/- and predicts further fall in prices over next 2 weeks period.

HTC Desire 526G Plus has fulfilled everyone’s expectations. The device is performing significantly better than Asus Zenfone 5 and Micromax Canvas Nitro. The device can handle the everyday task with ease without any unnecessary lags. It can play high graphics games like Asphalt 8. The speakers though are not boom sound but are loud and punchy. The earpiece and microphone sound quality is good while making calls. The device has scored 69 for its features according to PriceJugaad ratings and 61 for its reviews. This gives a better than average look to the smartphone.

To conclude, HTC Desire 526G Plus is a capable device in this price range. Though initially, it was found over-priced but later with substantial decrease in prices, the device is a best buy as it also gives you a brand esteem of owning a premium smartphone.
